We are a group of dedicated individuals who are heavily invested in your success. We don’t have a large board of directors to satisfy, or expensive employee overhead. From start to finish, you will be working directly with Cort, Nick, and Steve to find and execute your next assignment.
Nick and Steve are both licensed physician assistants actively working locum tenens assignments as 1099 providers. Making the jump to locums or switching from W-2 to 1099 can be intimidating. You will have unlimited access to the partners to help answer questions or talk about their personal experiences.
Cort Beckman has been serving the locum’s community for more than 15 years. The premier name in recruiting, Cort has formed lasting relationships with providers and programs all over the country. Cort Beckman
Cort Beckman joined the Royal Surgical team in 2022 as Co-Founder and Chief Sales & Marketing Officer.
Cort has over 15 years of experience staffing cardiac surgical professionals and programs nationwide.
Cort was born and raised in Salt Lake City, UT where he spent most of his time playing baseball, snow skiing, hiking, and camping with his wife, Angela, and five children. If Cort isn’t outside on his back deck responding to emails or making phone calls, you’ll most likely run into him on a trail somewhere in WNC with his family.

Nick Wert
Nick Wert is the President and co-founder of RSA.
Nick has 8 years of experience in cardiothoracic surgery, specializes in all OR and ICU procedures, and prides himself on training in all realms of cardiac surgery. He believes it’s important to bring new practitioners into the field of cardiac surgery to fill the large void currently being created.
Dedicated husband and father of 3, Nick sought out a better opportunity for his family after he discovered the freedom locum tenens could offer. Nick did not accept that high earnings, extended vacations, and independent lifestyles were only obtainable by individuals without large families,“lone wolves”, or “gypsy souls.”
He found a way to “travel” without traveling and made locum tenens fit his family’s needs instead of the other way around…a trap many of us fall into working rigorous healthcare jobs.

Steve Mastrocola
Steve Mastrocola joined Royal Surgical as Chief Executive Officer in 2022.
Steve began his career as a cardiothoracic surgery physician assistant in Asheville, North Carolina. In 2020, Steve transitioned to locum tenens as a way to follow his wife, Brooke, through her journey to medical school and into her OB/GYN residency.
When Steve is not in the operating room, he enjoys spending his time on the golf course or planning his next trip to a new part of the country.
It is now Steve’s mission to help other providers find the work/life balance and freedom locum tenens can provide.
